WHO WE ARE
Alaska Human Services is a small private treatment agency providing treatment for substances abuse to the Anchorage area since 1984. Being a small private agency allows Alaska Human Services to offer a more personalized service to our clients.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
You will be given an assessment to aid the counselor in determining the BEST and most appropriate treatment plan. At the intake session, your counselor will make sure you understand program policies, give you a tour of the facility and you will begin developing a treatment plan that fits your needs. Some groups are necessary so that you have a good understanding of the recovery process. For example, our basic educational groups which covers drugs and alcohol, social systems, addiction models and diagnosis, relapse prevention information and planning. Areas of lifestyle change are addressed in other group settings; for instance, handling stress in a healthy ways, communication, and balancing one's life. Other groups that you will attend have a more open format to provide you a safe place to discuss problems that you may be experiencing. Groups are a very important part of treatment, but as important are the individual sessions. During your individual sessions, your primary counselor will process group information on a more personal level in a confidential setting. Individual sessions are scheduled according to the your needs.

TREATMENT WORKS
For many years, Alaska Human Services has tracked all clients that successfully complete the outpatient program. Clients that participate in the survey reported that the program was instrumental in helping them change problematic behavior. Another important factor that we consider is what our program strengths and weakness are. We ask clients to be very honest with us so that we may continually improve our program for present and future clients. These clients summed it up, "Very good staff, good support, empathy." "I liked the program, made me look at myself in new ways." "Groups were helpful because I found out that others have real problems as well." "Dr. Lane had a good sense at helping me look at my problems without being overbearing. He has a well-thought out plan and methods of helping people look at their problems and stay the course of improvement."
TO SUM IT UP
We are in the business of helping people help themselves. We believe that if treatment is going to work that the individual must take an active role in developing and carrying out his or her own treatment plan. Furthermore, we believe that if the person is to fully recover, that they need to develop skills to combat the relapse process and have a plan for the prevention of relapse. If you feel that you want to take an active, positive role in your recovery from substance abusing behavior - call.
